PHAX NEWS:
1. Dimitris, with a solid background from the National Conservatory of Athens and the University of West London, how has your classical foundation influenced the evolution of your current pop and global sound?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
My classical training has been one of the fundamental pillars of my musical journey. My studies at the National Conservatory of Athens and the University of West London provided me with a solid foundation in harmony, composition, musical structure, and the emotional power of sound. Beyond the technical aspects, I gained discipline and came to understand the importance of conveying something meaningful through every single note. As my artistic identity evolved, I began to explore pop, electronic music, and sounds from various parts of the world—blending cultures, rhythms, and traditions—all while remaining true to my core essence. I believe my classical background grants me the freedom to experiment without compromising the musical depth of my work. Whether I am creating contemporary pop or developing a multicultural project like MANA, my goal is to build bridges between different musical worlds and to craft music that transcends linguistic barriers, touches the heart, and connects people.
PHAX NEWS:
2. Your latest work, "MANA," has resonated deeply on an international level and has been approved for consideration for the GRAMMY® Awards. What inspired the creation of such an intimate project?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
MANA was born from a deeply personal sentiment: love for my mother and the profound influence she has had on my life. In Greek, *mana* means "mother," and I wanted to create something that would honor not only my own mother but all mothers across the world—celebrating the unconditional love, strength, and sacrifices they represent. For me, this project became much more than just music; it evolved into a tribute—a way to express emotions that words alone sometimes fail to convey. Musically, my vision was for MANA to bridge diverse cultures and traditions, blending Greek and Mediterranean influences—including the powerful rhythms of the *zeimbekiko*—with an epic, cinematic sound and a global perspective. I firmly believe that a mother’s love is a universal language, understood regardless of one’s nationality or background. While having this project considered for the GRAMMY® Awards is a significant milestone, my greatest hope is that MANA touches people’s hearts, fosters connection, and reminds us all to cherish those who offer us their unconditional love.

PHAX NEWS:
3. Beyond being a tribute to mothers, you describe "MANA" as a homage to Mother Nature and the Earth. How did you manage to capture such a universal, ecological theme through melody and vocal performance?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
For me, the connection between motherhood and Mother Earth is deeply symbolic: both represent life, unconditional love, protection, and the incredible power to nurture. The Earth is our shared home, yet we often forget how much we depend on it. Through MANA, I wanted to express gratitude toward the natural world while gently reminding us of our responsibility to protect it. I approached the music as an emotional journey, employing sweeping, cinematic melodies and a blend of cultural influences to reflect the beauty, diversity, and interconnectedness of our planet. The vocal performance was equally important; I sought to convey genuine emotion rather than simply telling a story. I approached each phrase with sensitivity and intensity, allowing the music to shift between intimacy and a sense of near-epic unity. By combining Greek and Mediterranean elements with a broader global sound, I aimed to create a work that felt deeply rooted in my own heritage yet universal in its message. Ultimately, MANA is an invitation to reconnect with our origins, respect the Earth that sustains us, and recognize that protecting our planet is an act of love for future generations.
PHAX NEWS:
4. "MANA" features a powerful, multicultural collaboration involving top-tier musicians. What was the creative and production process like when weaving together so many international voices and talents into a single work?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
The creation of MANA was an extraordinary experience defined by collaboration, trust, and a shared artistic vision. Bringing together internationally renowned musicians from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds allowed us to explore a rich spectrum of sounds—ranging from Greek and Mediterranean traditions to global, contemporary, and cinematic influences. Each artist brought a unique identity and perspective to the project, and my role was to integrate these individual voices while preserving the essence that made each contribution special. As an independent artist, I value the creative freedom to forge collaborations that transcend borders and to create something that goes beyond conventional musical boundaries. The production process required a delicate balance between honoring each musician's individuality and maintaining a cohesive emotional identity throughout the work. Working alongside Constantine Oikonomopoulos and Mehran Matin—with Natalie Jean serving as production assistant—was instrumental in shaping that vision. What makes MANA special to me is that it is not merely a gathering of talented musicians, but a meeting of cultures united by a shared message: love, gratitude, and our common humanity. I firmly believe that when artists from different backgrounds come together with open hearts, music becomes a universal language capable of connecting people in ways that words alone cannot.
PHAX NEWS:
5. Throughout your 15-year career, you have released 24 singles and 4 albums, and amassed over 70 international awards. What has been the greatest challenge in remaining true to your artistic independence within this industry?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
The greatest challenge has been staying true to my artistic vision while navigating an industry that often encourages artists to follow trends rather than their own instincts. As an independent artist, every decision carries responsibility—from the music I create to the way I present it to the world. However, I have always believed that authenticity is more valuable than fleeting success. My journey has taught me that independence requires patience, resilience, and courage. I am grateful for the more than 70 international awards I have received, but what matters most is having the freedom to create music that reflects who I am. To me, success means evolving artistically without ever losing my identity.
PHAX NEWS:
6. Your international debut album, DIMITRIOS, reached number 16 in the US and topped the charts in Greece, while your recent singles have made an impact in over 15 countries—finding particular success in Latin America and the United States. To what do you attribute this warm reception from Latin American audiences?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
I believe that Latin American audiences connect deeply with music that conveys genuine emotion, passion, and powerful melodies. These qualities have always been fundamental to my artistic identity, whether I am creating pop, music with global appeal, or something more experimental. Although I come from Greece, I feel that the Mediterranean spirit shares a natural affinity with Latin cultures, thanks to our warmth, our musical traditions, and the importance we place on family and human connections. Receiving such a warm welcome from audiences across Latin America is truly meaningful to me. It reminds me that music can transcend borders without losing its authenticity. I hope to continue strengthening these bonds through my work and, perhaps, introduce Greek and Mediterranean influences to those who may be discovering my music for the first time.
PHAX NEWS:
7. Beyond music, you have excelled in acting—spanning musical theater and genre cinema—as well as in radio. How do your stage and acting experiences fuel the passion you bring to every song you perform?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
Acting and musical theater have taught me how to convey emotions, embody different perspectives, and tell stories authentically. I apply that same approach to my music: I don’t just sing a song; I try to live its story and make the listener feel every emotion behind it. My radio experience has also helped me understand the power of the voice and the importance of forging a genuine connection with the audience. Ultimately, all these artistic disciplines complement one another. Whether I am on stage, in front of a camera, or in the recording studio, my goal is to make people feel something real. For me, music isn't just about technique or performance; it’s about storytelling, showing vulnerability, and creating moments that stay with people long after the final note has faded.
PHAX NEWS:
8. You are a voting member of the Recording Academy and the Country Music Association, a juror for the Global Film & Music Festival USA, and an Associate Vice President at the ISSA. How do you balance your role as a creator in the studio with your leadership responsibilities and your work supporting other artists?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
For me, these roles are united by a shared love of music and a commitment to fostering artistic excellence. Creating music demands focus and emotional freedom, while my professional responsibilities allow me to contribute to the sector as a whole, recognize talent, and help other artists grow. I approach each facet with respect, responsibility, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact. Balance is achieved through organization, discipline, and the ability to know when to devote my full attention to each responsibility. As an independent artist, I understand the challenges creators face, which makes supporting others particularly meaningful to me. I believe the music industry is strengthened when we celebrate each other's achievements, share opportunities, and create spaces for diverse voices to be heard.
PHAX NEWS:
9. As the Founder and CEO of Pulse+ Records, how do you view the current landscape for independent artists vis-à-vis major record labels?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
Today, independent artists have more opportunities than ever to reach international audiences, thanks to digital platforms and direct communication with fans. However, visibility, marketing budgets, and access to industry networks remain significant challenges. Major record labels possess valuable resources, yet independence offers something equally important: creative freedom and the ability to make decisions without compromising artistic identity. As the founder and CEO of Pulse+ Records, I believe the future belongs to artists who combine creativity with a clear strategy and a deep understanding of their audience. My goal is to help create opportunities for music to transcend borders while preserving each artist's individuality. Being independent does not mean working in isolation; it entails having the freedom to choose your direction and forge your own path to success.
PHAX NEWS:
10. You have explored a wide range of genres, from electronic and dance music to ballads with deep spiritual and human resonance—such as "Prayer for Peace" or "MANA." How would you define your artistic identity amidst such versatility?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
I would define my artistic identity through emotion, versatility, and authenticity. I have never wanted to limit myself to a single genre, as every story deserves its own musical language. Whether I am creating electronic music, a poignant ballad, or a spiritual work like *MANA* or *Prayer for Peace*, the common thread is my desire to connect with people on a deeper level. To me, genres are like different colors on the same canvas. My sound may evolve, but my purpose remains the same: to create meaningful music that transcends cultural barriers, expresses genuine emotions, and brings people closer together.
PHAX NEWS:
11. Being on the radar for the GRAMMY® Awards, with the backing of *Humanity Magazine Global* and *PHAX NEWS*, marks a career milestone. What does this personal and professional recognition mean to you at this stage of your career?
DIMITRIS NEZIS:
Being on the GRAMMY® Awards' radar marks an incredibly significant milestone in my journey, especially as an independent artist who has dedicated so many years to music, perseverance, and artistic freedom. It is deeply gratifying to see a project like *MANA*—born from the depths of my heart—reach a wider international audience. Every step of this journey—challenges included—has helped shape the artist I am today. I am especially grateful to everyone who has listened to my music, believed in my vision, and supported my work along the way. For me, the greatest reward is knowing that my music can touch people's hearts, transcend cultural barriers, and perhaps make the world a slightly more compassionate place. That is the legacy I aspire to build through my art.
